In 2009, founder Katherine Swift’s mum was diagnosed with a serious illness. That moment sparked a mission. While working closely with a breast cancer research charity, Katherine learned about antioxidants and the incredible concentration found in green tea especially matcha. Searching for the very best, she sourced high grade Japanese matcha for her mum. They both began drinking it every day and felt the difference. Matcha became a small but powerful way for her mum to take back control, and for Katherine to support her. This experience ignited a deep passion. Five years later, in 2014, Katherine founded OMGTea, determined to bring authentic, premium Japanese matcha to the UK and make its benefits accessible to others seeking to support their health. Early on, she sold matcha at local markets with her two young sons helping to handout samples, spreading awareness of a product few people had heard of at the time. Even in 2018, when she appeared on Dragon’s Den, three of five Dragons hadn’t heard of matcha, highlighting how early OMGTea truly was in the UK market. Today OMGTea is stocked by leading retailers including Selfridges, Holland & Barrett, Whole Foods Market, Ocado and hospitality venues across the UK.
